The American education system is designed to prepare children to be mindless cogs in a machine that runs from 9-5, doing menial tasks, cramming your head full of information one unit so you can flush it all out and cram in the next unit.

Here in Mass, we’ve got a great education system. We’re the smartest place in the world. But unfortunately, Massachusetts is part of America, and the other 49 states are bringing our national average down. This country needs to be held to our standards, and then we need to raise the standard even higher.

Education should be free for all who seek it. We all benefit from an educated populace.

Every American enrolled in our public education system should graduate with the ability to read, write, express themselves constructively and creatively, perform basic arithmetic, and most importantly the ability to think critically.

Citizens should be more than book smart. They should know how to be independent in the ways that matter. We should all know how to cook, how to clean, how to sew our own clothes and mend damages. we should know how to construct shelter, how to defend ourselves, how to perform first aid, how to forage for food and how NOT to forage for food.

I want to say we should all understand calculus and physics and chemistry, but I fear some people (including at times, myself) are just are not intelligent enough to get it. That’s okay, but every nerd deserves their shot.
